Mathias Staten Turner Jan 4, 1907 Atkins Chronicle

   It is with sadness that we are called upon this week to 
report the death of one of the oldest and best citizens of 
the county, that of Uncle Staten Turner, who departed this 
life Thursday, Dec. 27, 1906, and was buried on Saturday at 
Gumlog cemetery in the presence of a large crowd of sorrowing 
friends and relatives. 
   Funeral services were conducted at the grave by Rev. D.C. 
Thurman of the M.E. church.
