Mrs. Elizabeth McCarley  7 June 1836 Arkansas Gazette

 Departed this life, the 31st May, 1836, in the 60th year of her age, 
Mrs. Elizabeth, consort of John McCarly, Esq. At their residence in 
Pope county, Arkansas.
 Mrs. McCarly has left a disconsolate husband, seven children, and a
numerous train of friends and acquaintances to lament their loss.  Mrs.
McCarly possessed, naturally, a mild, complaisant disposition, softened
and ameliorated by early grace, which rendered her a most delightful 
and interesting companion, an affectionate and loving mother, and a 
much admired and respected friend and neighbor.
 Her complaint was lingering, and of nearly 12 months’ duration.  A 
short time before she expired, she closed her eyes gently, and breathed 
her last without a struggle or groan, and with a smile on her countenance
which was indicative of the happiness of her departing spirit.  
"O death! Where is thy sting? And O grave! Where is thy victory?"
"Life wears a gloom for all who die,
And leaves a name endeared behind,
As earth, when down the evening sky
The sun in glory hath declined."
