JOHNSON Funeral service for Mrs. Marion Louise Johnson of Wabash was conducted Mon. afternoon at the St. Paul AME Church in Lakeview. The Rev. Norman L. Collins Sr. officiated. Burial was in New Jerusalem Cemetery at Wabash under direction of Stephens Funeral Home. Mrs. Johnson, 63, died March 29 at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. She was a member of the New Jersualem Missionary Baptist Church at Wabash. Survivors include two sons, Eric Johnson of Waukegan, Illinois and Rodney Johnson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; four daughters, Joanne of Lakeview, Charlotte, Cheryl and Antoninette of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-greatchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ APRIL 12, 2000 PAGE 2 IRA D. JONES SR. Funeral services for Ira Dale Jones of Greenwood, Miss., a former resident of West Helena., was conducted Mon. morning at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood. The Rev. James Gholson officiated. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery in Helena Mon. afternoon. Mr. Jones, 50, died April 6 at his home in Greenwood. He was funeral director and embalmer for Wilson and Knight Funeral Home, where he had been employed since 1989, a member of the Brentwood Ave. Church of God in Greenwood, and was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge. He was a graduate of Central High School in West Helena and attended the Univ. of Ark. at Monticello. He was an Air Force veteran, a former member of the West helena United Methodist Church, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Tellecia Ruth Jones Kitchel of Moore, Okla.; a son, Ira D. Jones Jr., with the Army in Waco, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Nettye Dale Jones of West Helena; three brothers, Dr. Dewayne D. Jones of Tulsa, Okla., Lloyd L. Jones jr. of Helena and Rex G. Jones Sr. of West Helena; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dr. Dewayne Jones, Floyd L. Jones, Rex G. Jones Sr., Jack Parker, Carlton Minyard, Rayburn Cheek, Marcial Mitchel and Ken Becker. The family requests any memorials made to the charity of the donor's choice, the Shriner Crippled Children's Hospital or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. ALBERT NELSON Funeral service for Albert Nelson of Marvell was conducted Sat. at Bob Neal & Sons-Brickell Funeral Home. Burial was in Lone Valley Cemetery. Mr. Nelson, 75, died April 1 at Helena Regional Medical Center. LONG Funeral service for Silas Luther Long of Mountain View was conducted Wed. afternoon at the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Mountain View. The Rev. Luther Branscum and the Rev. Junior Aver officiated. Burial was in Leviey Flat Cemetery at Mountain View. Mr. Long, 91, died April 9 at the White River medical Center in Batesville. He was a native of Newnata, Ark., a retired carpenter and minister, and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Jane Thomas of Mountain View; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Crymes and Mrs. Georgia Adams, both of Mountain View; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Pallbearers were John Crymes, Jimmy long, Billy Don Long, Cid Gifford, Charles Lee Brown, and William S. "Turk" Corder. WILBERT H. "BOB" MORRIS Funeral service for Wilbert H. "Bob" Morris of Senatobia, Miss. was conducted Wed. afternoon at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Truman Thompson officated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Morris, 75, died April 8 after suffering an apparent heart attack as he returned to Senatobia after a trip to Memphis. He was a native of Mount Vernon, Ark. but lived many years in West Helena. He was a retired barber and was co-owner of Bob and Charlie's Barber Shop in Plaza Street. He was a WW II Army Veteran, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreighn Wars. He was also extremely active in the Masonic Lodge and was a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 189, was a 32nd Degree Masonic and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Virginia Marie Morris of Senatobia; two sons, Vernon M. Morris of West Helena and Russell W. Morris of Senatobia; three brothers, Jessie E. Morris of Tacoma, Washington, Emmitt N. Morris of Heber Springs, and William R. Morris of Yakima, Washington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. LOW LEE HOY Graveside service for Mrs. Low Lee Hoy of West Helena was conducted Tues. morning at Maple Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Burl Lloyd officiated. Arrangements were under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mrs. Hoy, 72, died Sun. at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Canton, China and the retired owner of Hoy Lee's Grocery in Helena. Survivors include two sons, Claude M. Lee of West Helena and Harvey R. RUTH W. CRISP Graveside service for Mrs. Ruth Whitfield Crisp of Marvell was conducted Fri. morning at Sunset Memorial Park. The Rev. Edward Warren officiated. Arrangements were under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mrs. Crisp, 88, died Tues. at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker, a native of Connell's Point, and a member of the Marvell Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Jerry Crisp of Pecos, TX.; three brothers, Norman M. Whitfield of Memphis, William M. Whitfield of Jasper, Ala., and Dan P. Smalley of Tyrone, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Vernon Hartsfield, Curtis Crisp, Dennis Story, Eugen Bryant, and Dr. Jim Wise. MRS. LITTIE BARROW Funeral service for Mrs. Littie Barrow of Lexa will be conducted at 2 p.m. today (Sat.) at the Second Baptist Church in Lexa. The Rev. Frierson will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery under direction of Stephens Funeral Home. Mrs. Barrow, 91, died April 17, at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church and served the congregation as a member of the Mother's Board until her death. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Brown of Lexa and Mrs. Nora Booker and Mrs. Lora Daniels, both of Chicago, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. VICTOR L. RODGERS Graveside service for Victory [sic] Lee Rodgers of McAlester, Okla. was conducted this (Sat.) morning at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements were under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mr. Rodgers, 40, died Tues. at his home in McAlester. He was a native of bradford but had lived in many places growing up as the son of a career serviceman. He had lived in McAlester for the last 10 yrs. At the time of his death, he was employed by Key Energy in the oil fields of Olka. He had been in the oil business for more than 21 yrs. and had worked with other oil companies in Ark., Okla., and Texas. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in McAlester. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Patricia Rodgers; his mother, Mrs. Betty Ray of West Helena; his father and step-mother, Robert and Sheila Rodgers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Tony Rodgers of McAlester; three sisters, Evonne Kettle of McAlester; and Molly Rodgers and Kayla Ray, both of Altus; and his maternal grandmother, Marie Hilpert of West Helena. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
