C. Campbell, who lived about five miles south of Texarkana on highway 71, received fatal injuries shortly before 11 p. m. Wednesday when the car in which she was riding was in collision with a taxicab at the intersection of Third and Hazel streets. Her chest was crushed when the car in which she was riding over turned upon her. She also received severe scalp lacerations. Passersby lifted the car from her and she was taken to Texarkana hospital in a Texarkana funeral home ambulance. She died at 11:20 p. m. without regaining consciousness. Meanwhile Sheriff W. E. Davis of Miller County, said that Joe Phillips, taxicab driver, and J. O. Gentry, 1123 Lincoln street, driver of the car in which Miss Campbell and two other were riding, were under $1000 and $500 bonds, respectively. The sheriff said however, that no charges had been filed in the case, pending further investigation. Phillips told officers that Gentry’s car struck the rear of the taxi, but Gentry said that the cab ran into his vehicle. Sheriff Davis said that a thorough probe of the mishap would be made before Tuesday., when a preliminary hearing will be held in Arkansas municipal court. Neither Gentry, his two other passengers who fled the scene, nor the taxicab driver and his three passengers was injured except for scratches. Gentry said he picked up Miss Campbell and Wayne Moore, proprietor of Wayne’s Sandwich stand who brought along a girl friend whose name was not learned immediately, at Moore’s stand on College Hill. Gentry said that he was in route to take Miss Campbell to her home when the fatal mishap occurred. In addition to her parents Miss Campbell is survived by one sister, Wilma Campbell; a brother, David Campbell; her grandmother, Mrs. Malia Campbell, all of Miller county; and her grandfather, J. W. Ray, of Jefferson, Texas. Funeral services will be held at the Silverino church, in Miller county, the time to be announced later, with the Rev. Ell Westbrook, officiating. Burial will be in Silverino cemetery. ************************************************************************
