EDENS OF NEAR JAPTON EXPIRED MAY 11 Mr. S.P. Edens, age 86, passed away at his home near Japton on May 11. He had been ill for about two years. The deceased was born in Kentucky on September 22, 1863. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served as a Church of Christ minister for many years. Mr. Edens was a widely known and respected member of his community. He was well known as a minister and in this capacity he officiated at weddings of many couples living in or near his home (Included among the many marriages he performed is that of Editor and Mrs. Faubus). He is survived by his wife Annie Aryers-Edens; six sons, Hiram Edens of Marshall; Reuben Edens, St. Joe; Scott Edens, Japton; Charlie Edens, Gateway; Bob Edens, Thornton, Calif.; Albert Edens, Japton; three daughters, Mrs. Eller Ogden, Witter; Mrs. Etta Burnett, Combs; and Mrs. Maude Vanderwinter, Denton, Texas; two brothers, Bob Edens, Ewing, Va.; and Sherman Edens, Sneedsville, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Yeary, Kentucky and Mrs. Sarah Lemons, of Virginia and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Edens was preceded in death by his first wife several years ago. Graveside funeral services were conducted by L.E. Garner, minister of the Church of Christ of Huntsville, May 12 at 4:00 p.m. with burial in the Ledbetter cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Obituary from Madison County Record, 5/10/1958:] ALBERT EDENS Albert Edens, 65, of Route 6, died April 3, at 5:30 p.m. He was born March 11, 1893 in Virginia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Edens. He is survived by four sons, Kellen Edens of Combs, Chester Edens of Lowell, Ervin Edens, of Route 6, Huntsville and Denver Edens of Coos Bay, Oregon; four daughters, Mrs. Lula Cooper of Combs, Mrs. Dorothy Russell of Springdale, Mrs. Thelma Parker of Route 6, Huntsville, and Miss Glenda Edens of the home; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Ball Creek Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Leerie Ball, Church of Christ minister. Burial was in the Ledbetter cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Daniel Sams, Clyde Burnett, Fred Burnett, Alfred Hawkins, Ewell Parker, and H.L.
