W. T. High, in Lonoke, Saturday May 30th, 1885, Mr. L. A. High at the advanced age of 85 years. The remains were interred Sunday at Wattensaw. Grandpa High, as he was generally called, was born March 26, 1800, in Wake County, North Carolina, where an aged sister, Mrs. Bettie Dunn, survives; besides to mourn the death of a father, three daughters and two sons, and a number of grand-children, great grand-children and many old friends and acquaintances are left behind to sojoun a little whole longer here below, but whose summons may come with to-morrow's sun. High, desc., Martha High Cato, Susan High Norton, Maria Frances High Cato, Alexander Peyton High, desc., James Alford High and of course William Thomas High, whose house he died at.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Lonoke Democrat, Lonoke Co., AR, date not known JAMES ALFORD HIGH Father of County Judge E. M. High dies After Lingering Illness Mr. James High, aged 87, one of four surviving Confederate veterans of Lonoke county, died at the home of his son, County Judge E. M. High, Monday morning following serveral weeks illness. He was born in Mississippi and moved to Lonoke with his parents in 1860. He enlisted in the Confederate army at the age of 16 and was a member of Company G(H), 25th Arkansas Infantry, thorughout the war. Mr. High was wounded in the leg three times in the battle of Nashville. He also participated in the battles at Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga and Peach Tree Creek. He returned to Lonoke county in 1865. He is survived by nine sons, Judge E. M. High, Espy B. W., Roy and Ray High of Lonoke, Wade High of Cabot, Horace and Sam High of Wattensaw and Clarence High of Malvern, 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services and burial were held at Wattensaw at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. R. P. Bain in charge. Pallbears were: Honorary, S. V. Dese, S. V. Austin, R. H. Suggs, J. W. Hallum, W. J. Beard, C. H. Ford, S. S. Glover, Antone Eagle, J. G. Cannon and Max Frohlich. Active: Oscar Fawcett, Lee Grover, Charles Reep, Jake Legate, W. C. Ellis and R. O.
