Dr. Hamilton, the son of Paul Hamilton, who was governor of South Carolina, and appointed Secretary of the Navy in 1809 by James Madison, was born and educated in Charleston; removed to Alabama in 1836 where he remained respected and honored in the practice of his professoin until 1849 when he removed to this country (county?) Pure in thought, pure in word, pure in deed is written of him on memory's eternal tablet......... Eternity having no terrors for him he passed into another state of existence with that beautiful blending of life and death which renders the transition sublime, As the summer's eve slowly, quietly, cloudlessly loses itself in the shades of the night, so the evening of his serene life glided into the darkness of eternity.
