Callie Josephine (Patterson) Turner aged 79, died in a local hospital, Thursday afternoon. she had lived in Newport over 30 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and was very active until she retired of ill health. She was a life time member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and held many offices. She served as chaplin in the Legion Auxillary and during World War 2, she was a faithful worker in the USO services. Mrs. Turner and her husband Thomas Nathan Turner celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 4th. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Nathan Turner, 6 sons B. L. Turner of Newport , J. O. Turner of Alexanderia, LA, J. R. Turner of Homestead, FL, T. E. Turner of Atchinson, KS, W. L. Turner of Kansas City, MO, R. R. Turner of Lansfield, LA, 3 daughters Mrs. Guy Stephens and Miss June Turner of Newport and Mrs. Frank McGuyer of Shreveport, LA, 2 brothers Earl Patterson of Baldwin Park, CA and R. B. Patterson of San Bruno, CA , 1 sister Mrs. H. A. Koontz of South Gate, CA , many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held saturday morning at the First Methodist Church by Rev.Frank Weatherford and burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery by Dillinger Funeral Service. Pall bears were T. C. Roberts, Bob Robinson, Lockwood Burnett, J. W. Bundy, F. M. Parker and Ray Ofann. *** Newport Daily Independent Friday July 13, 1962 Mrs. Callie Turner dies in hospital Mrs. Callie Josephine Turner 79, a life long resident of Arkansas died yesterday in a local hospital. She resided at 320 4th street. She was born June 19, 1884 in Franklin County, AR. Mrs. Turner was a member of the First Methodist Church where she participated actively since coming to Newport, She was a lifetime member of the Women's Society of Christian Service and served as chaplin of the American Legion Auxillary. Survivoring, are her husband, Thomas Nathan Turner, 6 sons, B. L. Turner of Newport, J. O. Turner of Alexanderia, LA , J. R. Turner of Homstead, FL, T. E. Turner of Atchinson, KS, W. L. Turner of Kansas City, MO, and R. R. Turner of Mansfield Turner KS, 2 daughters, Mrs. Guy Stephens and Miss June Turner both of Newport, 2 brothers, Earl Patterson of Baldwin Park, CA and R. V. Turner of San Bruno, CA. and a sister Mrs. H. A. Koontz of CA. Funeral services will be at 10 am Saturday at the First Methodist Church, the Rev. Frank Weatherford will officate.
