Owens, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of Howard County, died at his home at Centre Point Sunday morning, October 26, after a long illness, aged 81 years. Dr. Owens is survived by a wife and a number of grown children, and was a brother to Mrs. Rachel McCrary, of this city. Dr. Owens has served Howard County as clerk and representative, and his official and private records were without reproach. He was a Christian gentleman, a good citizen, and one whose influence and example were always for the best interest of the country. The remains were buried at County Line Cemetery Monday afternoon, with Masonic honors. Dr. Owens was born in Clinton, South Carolina, the son of Thomas Richard and Ailcey Duckett Owens.
