Funeral services were scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 (1988) in Latimer Funeral Chapel for John W. Burkhart, 75. Officiating ministers included the Rev. Jerry Hill and Dr. David Blase. Burial was in the Nashville Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home. Mr. Burkhart was born Nov. 12, 1913, at Nashville, son of the late Joseph Peter Burkhart and Nancy Cordelia Powell Burkhart. He died Monday, Nov. 21 (1988) at a Nashville hospital. He was a self-employed farmer, an employee of the city of Nashville and a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Estelle Chism Burkhart of Nashville; three brothers, Jim Burkhart, Mack Burkhart and Cecil Burkhart, all of Nashville; three sisters, Mrs. Essie Elder, Mrs. Dean Dunaway and Mrs. Velma Wrinkle, all of Nashville; and a number of nephews and nieces. James Odell Wakley, 45-year old poultry farmer of Umpire, died Thursday night (January 16, 1964) at a Nashville hospital. He was a lifetime resident of Howrd County, was a member of the Umpire Methodist church and was a veteran of World War II. The survivors include the wife, Mrs. Vera Wakley of Umpire; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Peggy) McLaughlin of Bossier City, Louisiana and Miss Joan Wakley of Umpire; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Wakley of Umpire and a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bissell Chapel church, near New Hope, with the Rev. Robert Mantooth officiating. Burkhart, a resident of Nashville for 41 years who died in her sleep about midnight Monday (August 4, 1952) at her home on Sand Hill. She was 75 years of age. Services were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. W. E. Perry, pastor, conducting. Burial was in Nashville cemetery. She was born at Evening Shade in Sharp County on October 20, 1876, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Powell. On December 23, 1894 she was married to J. P. Burkhart who was farming then near Magnolia. Mr. and Mrs. Burkhart moved to Nashville in 1911. She attended the Baptist Church. The survivors include her husband; four sons, Jim, Joh, Mack and Cecil Burkhart, all of Nashville; six daughters, Mrs. Jim Thomas, Mrs. Iva Elder, Mrs. Harvey Keaster, Mrs. Roy Elder, Mrs. Fred Dunaway and Mrs. Denver Davis, all of Nashville; two brothers, Arthur Powell of Camden and Jess Powell of Garland City, Arkansas; three sisters, Mrs. Allie Beavers and Mrs. Minnie Hill, both of Prescott, and Mrs. Viola O'Rourke, now residing in California; 12 grandchildren and five great grandsons. Burkhart, resident of the Nashville area for the past 45 years died at Memorial Hospital Friday (January 27, 1956) at the age of 81 years. He was a farmer, and a member of the First Methodist church here. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Methodist church with the Rev. J. E. Dunlap and the Rev. Lonnie Lasater officiating. Burial was in the Nashville cemetery under direction of the Latimer Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Burkhart Thomas, aged 76 of Nashville, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Latimer Funeral Chapel here with Rev. David Wilson officiating, assisted by Rev. John Holston. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of the Latimer Funeral Service. Mrs. Thomas was born March 30, 1896 at Magnolia, Arkansas and died Sunday, November 5th (1972) at a Nashville hospital. She had been a resident of Howard County the past 65 years. She was a member of the New Vernon Methodist Church. The survisors include the husband, Jim H. Keaster of Nashville died Saturday (August 12, 1967) in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 63 years of age. She was born February 11, 1904 in Columbia county, Arkansas and was a member of the First Baptist church of Nashville. The survivors include the husband, Harvey L. Keaster, two sons, Archie and Clyde Keaster, both of Nashville; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Steuart of Arlington, Texas; four brothers, Jim Burkhart, John Burkhart, Mack Burkhart and Cecil Burkhart, all of Nashville; five sisters, Mrs. Jim Thomas, Mrs. Lindsay Elder, Mrs. Roy Elder and Mrs. Fred Dunaway, all of Nashville, and Mrs. Denver Davis of Vinton, La., and three grandchildren. Mr. Keaster was born Jan. 17, 1926, at Nashville, son of the late Harvey Lee Keaster and Clara Cordelia Burkhart Keaster. He died suddenly Sunday, June 17 at his home. An Army veteran of World War II, he was bookkeeper and co-owner of Nashville Drug Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and treasurer, and he was a member of Nashville Rotary Club and Pleasant Valley Masonic Lodge. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher. She was a retired teacher from the Nashville School District, where she taught for 43 years. She was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and Terra Firma Garden Club. Mrs. Burkhart was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Henderson Burkhart, who died Dec. 12, 1991.
