He was a retired automobile mechanic, and a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Treadaway Pilcher of Malvern; three duaghters, Louella Canada and Hazel Chancellor, both of Malvern and Betty Smoke of russellville; three brothers, Carmie Pilcher and Archie Pilcher, both of Malvern; six sisters, Mitchell Hodges of Midway, Grace Williams and Lucille Mills, both of Antioch, Dorothy Grant of Texas, and Ruth Adney and Ina Wehenkle both of Calif.; and eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Walker, 82, of Hot Springs Village, died Sat., Nov. 26, 1988, at Ocala, Fla. He was a retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Army. He had received a bachelor of science, master of arts, and Ph.D. from the Univ. of Minnesota. From 1946-51 he served as deputy chief and director of education of the Dependent School Division, Headquarters, European Command and received a commendation for meritorious civilian service overseas. He was director of the Educational Statistics Division in the U.S. Office of education and served as educational advisor to the Northern Region in Nigeria under the U.S. Agency for International Development. After retiring from USOE he was professor of Educational Research and Statistics at Bowie State College Graduate School. Survivors include his wife, Kathyrn Walker of Hot Springs Village; a son, Charles Richard Walker of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two daughters, Bonnie C. Michie of Emerald, Wis., and Virginia Spooner, Fountain Valley, Calif.; a step-daughter, Margaret M. Kuhnly of Minneapolis, Minn.; two brothers, Vernon E. Walker of Cape Coral, Fla., and Darrell W. Walker of Ocala, Fla.; and 10 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. His body was cremated. RUSSELL GARLAND, TEXAS -- Fred Leonard Russell, 70, of Garland, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 1988. He was a native of Hot Springs. He was retired from the Katy Railroad of Garland, a veteran of the U. S. Marines, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include a son, Michael Russell of Aubrey, Texas; two brothers, John Russell of Hot Springs and Raymond Russell of Malvern; two sisters, Sara “Cookie: Cook of Hot Springs and Etta Mae Burleson of Dallas, Texas; and two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. ******************************************************************************* Saturday, December 17, 1988 C. J. IRWIN C. J. Irwin, 72, died Friday, Dec. 16, 1988, in a local hospital.
