CARRELL **************** SAN ANTONIO--Julia Puryear Carrell, 79, of San Antonio, formerly of Hot Springs Village, died Mon., July 30, 2001. Born at Dumas to oscar and Lois Puryear, she was a retired schoolteacher. She was predeceased by two husbands, Jesse Carrell and Jack Jennings, one son, Sherman Carrell and one brother, Lynn Puryear. Survivors include one son and two daughters-in-law, John and Kim Carrell of San Antonio and Beth Caaarrell of Odessa, Texas; two brothers, Glynn Puryear and William Puryear, both of Dumas; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Fri. in First United Methodist Church in Hot Springs Village. Burial will be in Walnut Lake Cemtery. FRANK D. She was predeceased by one brother, Hubert Gammill and one sister, Pauline Butler. Survivors include her hsuband of 59 years, Talmadge Kirkpatrick of Malvern; one sister, Ila Maud Pevehouse of Malvern; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ross Kirkpatrick of Malvern and Aubry and Pennie Kirkpatrick of Benton; one daughter and son-in-law, Clarice and Billy Thomas of Hermitage; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Born Oct. 31, 1904, at Chicago to Julius and Amelia Faulk Gresch, she was the former owner and operator for Fritz Coal Co. of Decatur, Ill., and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. She was predeceased by two husbands, Harold Carl Kniebusch and Kenneth Makepeace and four sisters. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Makepeace of El Dorado; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two-great-great grandchildren. MILLER ***************** CHESTER, MD.-- Mary Katherine Flannery Miller, 84, of Chester, Md., formerly of Hot Springs, died Tues., July 31, 2001, in Maryland. She was born aug. 18, 1916, in Southboro, Mass. She was a social worker with the Ark. Dept. of Human Services for 19 yrs. She was a graduate of Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass. Mrs. Miller was one of the first women to enlist in the W.A.C, Women’s Army Corps, in 1943. She servied seven yrs. in the Medical Service Corps. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hot Springs and was active in many charitable organizations, including Altar Socieety and Oblate of St. Benedict. She was the widow of Paul T. Miller. She is survived by a son, John Miller of Aztec, N.M.; two daughters, Doranne Devy of Chester, Md., and Marilyn Kurz of Van Buren, Ark.; and six grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Aug. 3, 2001, at Hot Springs Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Sat., Aug. 4, 2001, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Pierce, 75, of Poyen died Tues., July 31, 2001, in a local hospital. Born June 22, 1926, at Poyen to John and Pearl McMillan Pierce, he was Baptist, a carpenter, logger, woodworker, chain saw operator and lawnmower and weedeater repairman. He was predeceased by five brothers, Colburn Webb, Kirby Pierce, Early Pierce, Shirrell Pierce and Hugh Pierce; and one sister, Carrie King. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Taft of Malvern and Ramona Draper of Poyen; one sister, Hazel Riley of San Antonio; three grandchildren, Janey Antocki, Wendy Cook and David Draper; six great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. The service will be 3 p.m. Fri. in Lindsey-Poyen cemetery with Brother Robert Speer officiating. Pallbearers will be David Draper, Harry Draper, Janey Antochi and Bob Taft.
