He was past principal of East Side Elementary in Hot Springs and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by two wives, Jo Bess Humphry Hovell and Martha Lena Hallmark Hovell. He also taught in the public school systems in Texarkana, Texas and Dell City, Texas. Sheets of Hot Springs; two daughters, Janice Farr and Jeanette Shepherd, both of Sheridan; her parents, Bill and Hazel Tankersley of Pearcy; one brother, Roger Tankersley of Pearcy; three sisters, Brenda Braziel and Wanda Steiskal, both of Hot Springs, and Joyce Hill of Pearcy; and three grandchildren, Adam Allen, Samuel Shepherd and Shanna Shepherd.
