He was born April 26, 1932, in Kalamazoo, Mich., the son of Delbert and Ethel Prosser Havens. He was a retired tool and dye maker with General Motors and a U. S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. She was a graduate of Ouachita College and taught English and Latin in Bauxite. She had been an active participant in the Arkadelphia community, having done volunteer work in mumerous local organizations, with special interest in music and activities of First Presbyterian Church where she served several offices, including ruling elder.
