All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Thomas Marshal Hibbard February/March 2002 The Times Dispatch Thomas Marshal Hibbard Obituary Thomas Marshal Hibbard, 88, of Lodi, Calif., died of congestive heart failure on Jan. 27, 2002, in a Palm Springs, Calif., hospital. Born in Charleston, Ark., he was the second of nine children born to W.N. and Mattie Lee Lairamore Hibbard. During his early years, the family lived in several communities in Arkansas, Oklamoma and Texas. In 1933, with two covered wagons and over the period of a week, the Hibbards moved to Walnut Ridge, where they were cotton farmers. He married Jessie Mae Cole in 1935. At the end of World War II, Marshal moved his family to Yucaipa, Calif., where he managed an orange ranch. In the early 1950s, he went to work as a plumber for what is now known as Loma Linda University. He became head engineer before retiring in 1978. His wife preceded him in death in 1982. Marshal married Laura Ruhl Schmidt in 1986 and they made their retirement home in Lodi, Calif., while spending winters in Desert Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Buel Hibbard, George Hibbard and Johnny Hibbard, and two sisters, Ruby Waddell and Mary Ellen "Jane" Brown. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Hibbard, Loma Linda, Calif., and Kenneth Hibbard, San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Anita Rein, Banning, Calif., and Brenda Johnson, Citrus Heights, Calif.; a sister, Betty Holder, Paragould; two brothers, Bill Hibbard, O'Kean and Leon Hibbard, Walnut Ridge; and six grandchildren.
