CROSS with picture SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Colonel John R. Cross, U. S. Army Ret., age 71, passed away January 27, 1995 in San Antonio, Texas, Colonel Cross was born March 22, 1923, in McGehee, Arkansas to Gladys Paul Cross and Cage Cross, II. Col. Cross graduated from the Little Rock High School, received a B.S.B.A. degree from the University of Arkansas in 1949 and was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff School. In his 33 year Army career, Col. Cross served in Europe during WW II and as an officer in the Medical Service Corps in Germany, Korea, Texas, Oklahoma, New York, Georgia, and Maryland. He was a helicopter pilot and instructor at the Medical Field Service School, Fort Sam Houston and the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Col. Cross commanded the 3rd Medical Brigade, Fort Meade, Maryland. He was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and Legion of Merit. Col. Cross is survived by his wife, the former Veda Lee Donham of Little Rock, Arkansas; son, John Robert, Jr. and wife, Kay of San Antonio; daughters, Linda Lee Rosenmann of San Antonio, Carol Cross Morris of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Nancy Ann Vincent and husband, LTC. Mark Vincent of Alexandria, Virginia; brothers, Dr. Junius B. Cross and wife, Sarah and Howard Paul Cross and wife, Linda, all of Little Rock; and eight grandchildren, Kathryn Rosenmann, J. R., Kristin, Karissa and Leah Cross, Jennifer, Lisa and Laura Vincent. Graveside service with full military honors was held on Tuesday, January 31, 1995, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Windcrest United Methodist Church, San Antonio, Texas or the Leukemia Society of America.
