All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Newton Jefferson Yaerger October 1964 Atkins Chronicle Newton Jefferson Yaerger, 81 retired Atkins business man, died Monday at a Morrilton rest home. A native of Logan County, he came to Atkins at an early age and operated a meat market and grocery business here for 40 years until his retirement in 1953. During most of the time he and Mrs. Yaerger (Nora Belle Hearne), operated a lunch counter in conjunction with his business. At the time of his retirement he was the oldest retail merchant in Atkins. He was a Baptist. He is survived by three sons, William E. Yaerger of Panhandle, Texas; Alva Yaerger of Booneville, Ark; and Newton J. Yaerger Jr (Jack)of Benton, Ark; one daughter, Mrs Dorothy Bauer of Atkins, Ark; one brother Louis Yaerger of Treat, Ark; two sisters, Mrs Alice Looper of Oklahoma and Mrs. Annie Collier of Russellville, Ark; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Grave side services were held Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Henry Davenport. Burial was in Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
