All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Dr. William Henry White Dr. William Henry White, Pioneer Physician, Dies After Two Years Illness Dr. William Henry White, who dedicated 53 of the 77 years of his life to the medical fraternity, died at the family home at Banner Saturday, July 5, 1958. He had retired two years ago because of ill health. The son of Sam and Emma White, Doctor Whte was born at Maynard, March 6, 1881. He attended the old Little Rock Medical College and began his practice at Maynard. He was married to Miss Opal Harvey at Walnut Ridge Dec. 23, 1915. Her death occurred Dec. 28, 1957. Doctor and Mrs. White moved to Banner 27 years ago and during their residency there were active in church and community affairs. He was a member of the Methodist church. Doctor White was one of the last pioneers often referred to as the old- time country doctor. He overcame obstacles to obtain his medical education and endured hardships in his early-day practice to bring unstinting service to all who suffered. It was because of these sacrifices and his deep devotion to his profession that he left so many warm friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted at the Banner Baptist church at 2:30 p.m. Monday by the Rev. O. D. Yount. Music was by the church choir, with Dell Womack directing and Miss Gunelda Martin accompanist. Surviving are three sons, David of Detroit, Wilson of West Memphis and Clay of Banner; three daughters, Mrs. Mona Humes and Mrs. Ruth Webb of Muncie, Ind., and Mrs. Carolyn Bailey of Banner. Interment was in the Concord cemetery.
