T. McLain, Sr. Well-Known Gurdon Physician Dr. J. T. McLain Sr., aged 66 of Gurdon died at Little Rock hospital Thursday morning (June 20, 1946). A well known physician for 34 years, he had been resident surgeon for the Missouri Pacific Lines for 30 years. He was company doctor for the Cabe Lumber Company of Gurdon, Willkie Lumber Company of Smithten and the Barringer Lumber Company of Whelen Springs. He maintained a large practice in Gurdon and surrounding territory. A graduate of the Memphis Medical School, he did post-graduate work at the Polyclinic of New York city. He was a member of the Arkansas Medical Society, Masonic lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a charter member and a deacon of the Beech Street Baptist church, in which he was active. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edith McLain of Gurdon; a son J. T. McLain Jr. of Gurdon; two daughters, Misses Ruth McLain and Esther McLain of Gurdon; and two sisters, Mrs. J. J. P. Erion and Mrs. St. Claire Fox of Little Rock, The body will lie in state at the Murray funeral home at Arkadelphia until Saturday, when it will be sent to Gurdon for funeral services by the Rev. Kenneth Grant at the Beech Street Baptist church.
