AKENS DIES IN NEW MEXICO January 4, 1891 November 17, 1956 Ira Victor Akens, a 65 year old native of Warren, died in Gallup, New Mexico on Saturday, November 17. Mr. Akens was a resident of Sawmill, Arizona and was a brother to several Warren people. Survivors include his wife, Muriel Elizabeth Akens; four children, Loretta Faye, Ira Victor Jr., William Ronald, and Harold Craig Akens; two brothers, John Thaniel Akens of Warren, and William Edward Akens of Mountain View, California; six sisters, Mrs. Clementine Black of Warren, Mrs. Julia Wherry of Warren, Mrs. Anna Jennings and Mrs. J.W. Richey of Bellamy, Alabama, Mrs. G.G. Cash of El Centro California, and Mrs Ida Smith of Fresno, California. Funeral services for Mr. Akens were conducted at Frazer's Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday by Rev. Gerald W. Trussell. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery by Frazer Funeral Home. Out of town people attending the funeral services of I.V. Akens Sunday were Mrs. Muriel Akens and children Faye, I.V. Jr., Ronald, and Craig Akens of Flagstaff, Arizona; Mr. and Mrs. Charley Jennings of Clarksville, Mississippi, Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Givens of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Smith and daughter, Terry of Little Rock; Mr. and Mrs Carl Wherry and Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Wheeler of Monticello; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Black and granddaughter, Sherry, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Black of Benton; Mr. and Mrs. Felton Bryant of Hot Springs and Mr. and Mrs. John T. Akens Jr. and son, John T. III, of Texarkana, Arkansas. Pallbearers were Brown Black, Gordon Black, Clyde Sloan, Rufus Ray, and Levi Wherry. Honorary pallbearers were Clifton Wheeler, Carl Wherry, S.B. Anders, Claude Rowland, R.B. Powell, and Harvey Rowland. Ladies in charge of the flowers were Mrs. Brown Black, Mrs. Gordon Black, Mrs. Clyde Sloan, Mrs. Clifton Wheeler, Mrs. Rufus Wherry, and Mrs. C.R.
