Dixon, who as the last surviving Confederate pensioner in Walker County, passed away at his home near Linn's Park Tuesday, July 31. According to Mr. Dixon's repeated statement he was born deccember 8, 1830, and consequently, he had reached the advanced age of 114 years last December, if he was not mistaken about his age. Funeral services were held at Sardis Church a short distance south of Linn's park Thursday August 2, and interment was in the adjoining cemetery, A. B. Legg and Sons directing. John Wesley Dixon was born in Franklin County, Alabama, December 8, 1830. He was a son of John Thomas Dixon and Jane Biggs Dixon. His father was killed in the battle of Shiloh at the age of 71. John W. Enlisted in the Fourth Alabama Cavalry at Russellville, Alabama in 1861, and served under Generals Joe Wheeler, Forrest and Roddy. He was mustered out of the service at Montgomery, Alabama in 1865. Mr. Dixon was married three times. He married his first wife, Lizzie Bradford, in 1869 who gave him two children. His second wife was Isabel Willis, whom he married in 1884, who gave birth to six children. His third marriage was to Mrs. Doshia Garner in 1941. Besides his own children, Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife, 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. Dixon was quite active until a few weeks before his death, and would come to Jasper alone. He was injured in an automobile accident while enroute to Jasper a year or more ago, but came on to town and transacted some business in spite of his injury.
