I'm a descendant of Ulphie Cossette, the first settler at Wild Rice, Cass
co. I'm part of a group of decendants of Ulphie's and also of his other
brothers who are developing a web site for the Cossettes of Wild Rice.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone interested in the early
days of Wild Rice, Stanley township or the Cossette family in general
especially if they have any information to add (or to correct) on our web
site. We are particularly eager to add some additional family photos,
reference materials or family stories to our site.

GILMAN
J. Braud
Date: 29 March 2006
I am looking for information on Charles L Gilman.
He is on the 1880 census for Cass County with his wife (Mary E) and
children. There is a schedule of surviving civil war veterans listing
him as house 83, family 88. His son, my grandfather, Louis was born in
Fargo 12/20/1887 and another son Edward Dean Gilman 7/21/1889.
I know he died before 1900, because his widow is in Minnesota with her
surviving children for the 1900 census.
I am trying to find out Charles' parents names.
We can access old birth and death records at our courthouses in
Minnesota, are those records available in North Dakota and do they exist
for 1880-1900?
Thanks for any information you can share.

Date: 11 Feb 2006
I am looking for information about Emeline R Steele who lived in Cass
county I believe from about 1890 until 1938. She had come to ND from
northern NY with her father George S Steele who bought land there but
sold it in a few years and moved back East. From what I understand,
Emeline worked in the law office of Ball and Watson in Fargo, ND and then
became deputy clerk of the United States circuit and district court. She
retired about 1938 and returned to Spragueville, NY where she resided
until her death in 1952.
