I am looking for info on Samuel P. Bayless or Bayliss. This gentleman, who may have been my ancestor, had 4 patents for land in Lafayette county. These patents were dated 1843-45. I saw these (and so can you) at the GLO WEB page: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/. If there is a county deed book available, I would be grateful if someone might tell me if there are any deeds for Bayless or Bayliss listed so that I can write for copies. If Samuel P. was my ancestor, then he lived most of his life in East TN. He is in the 1840 census for McMinn county, TN. He was a man of mystery as few records can be found regarding his life. This may be because he went to MO for awhile. My Bayless page is at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/5456/baypage.html. Thanks.

I am looking for any info on Mary Jefferson and Sarah Jefferson, sisters who married Samuel Chrisman.

Mary Jefferson married Samuel Chrisman, March 1867 in Lexington, MO. They had a son, Arthur Jefferson Chrisman who was born in 1868. Besides the marriage record, the only other record I find on Mary is the 1870 census for Jackson county, Fort Osage township, Napoleon P. O. which lists her age 20 (est. birth 1850) and she says born in Missouri, her husband Samuel, age 22, and son Arthur, age 2. Family "hand-down" oral information says she might have been buried in Philpot Cemetery, Oak Grove, but I cannot find her listed in that cemetery. She died prior to 1872 and possibly in child-birth (baby died young), no record can be found.

Her younger sister, Sarah Jefferson, married the widower, Samuel on Oct. 23, 1872. She is listed on the Lafayette county SniBar township, 1880 census, listing her age as 24 (est. birth 1856), Samuel as 32, step-son Arthur as 12, and Lula (or Lulu) age 6 and Ella age 3. She dies prior to 1883 becuase Samuel is again a widower when he married third wife, Mary "Molly" Hurst in March 1883. I cannot find a cemetery listing for Sarah Jefferson Chrisman either and on her too, the only record I find is a marriage and one census listing. Also have no info on what happened to Lula.

I am a descendant of Arthur Jefferson Chrisman, the son of Mary and Samuel. I have no info on Lulu, daughter of Sarah and Samuel, but I do have info on Ella, daughter of Sarah and Samuel. The descendants of Ella, that I have contacgted, have no further info either.

Samuel Chrisman and his third wife, Mary "Molly" Hurst were buried in the McKindree Cemetery, south of Odessa. They had: Laura (Mrs. Earl Colvin), b. c. 1888; Luther, c. 1895, Georgia E. (Mrs. Jesse Gann), 1884; Susie (Mrs. W. Graham), c. 1886. There is a son, Lon, whom I believe to be from Sarah and Samuel, born maybe 1880?, but I'm not sure.

I have looked on MO census 1850 for possibly finding Mary (baby) on someones listing, no luck. I looked on 1860 to try and find Mary and Sarah, no luck. Help???? Any Jeffersons out there looking for a couple of lost sisters? I know I have furnished alot of background info here, but perhaps it will help zero in on a connection.

In 1849, the heirs of Hamilton C. Davis (Lafayette county, MO) sued George W. Bradley (wife: Elizabeth Davis Bradley) over a land dispute in Freedom township. Sarah Hamilton Davis (mother of both Hamilton and Elizabeth Davis) was living in the Bradley household at the time. Nathaniel S. Davis (another son of Sarah was a co-appellant). The Circuit Court found in favor of George W. Bradley. Then, in 1858, a suit was brought to the Missouri Supreme Court by Henry Smith and George W. Bradley against Nathanial S. Davis. The claim was that while Smith had leased a grist mill from Nathaniel (or possibly Hamilton) the mill had collapsed and Smioth was unable to fill his contract. The court's findings were in favor of Nathaniel Davis. Can anyone add details or "the whole story" behind these suits? Did it split the Davis families involved? Or, was this routine business in those times? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
