The Great Influenza Pandemic of the Winter of 1918-1919
During the Great Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919, over 550,000 people in the State of Louisiana died of Influenza.  During the five month period of September 1, 1918 to January 31, 1919, Concordia Parish had 87 people die.  While all of them might not have died of the flu, the vast majority of them did.  Millions more died around the world including over 8 million in Spain where it is believed to have started.
