In his will of June 20,1894 in Franklin Co he left his house, lot and store to his two sisters Sarah Payne CROOK and Martha DEWITT. He made James Madison PERRY the guardian or trustee to use the property for their benefit. The store burned sometime after that and was completely destroyed. Joseph is shown in 1810 census between age of 16-26. His wife's name was Catherine. One daughter, Maria, married Leander DODGE.. His son, William married Eleanor GAINES, daughter of Thomas GAINES. In 1839, Joseph sold his land to Bartius PIERCE, and moved to Missouri. My questions: where did Joseph come from? What was wife's surname? Who was Bartius Pierce? Also looking for name of first wife of Thomas GAINES b. abt 1785 Culpepper Co. VA. The first record I have of him is in 1810 Franklin Co. Census. He had seven children by his first wife, who died prior to 1826, when he remarried to Nancy SWITZER by whom he had 10 more children. In 1839, he moved to Monroe Co. MO. Dr. John and Rachael are shown in Franklin Co. KY in 1860 and in Springfield, Washington, Co. Ky in 1870. They left KY for Denton, Co., Texas after 1875 and before 1880. I do not know when Rachael or John died or where. John is last found in the home of his son, Melvin Henry MAYFIELD in the 1810 Denton Co, TX census. Rachael is missing from 1900 on. He then married Nancy Ann GRIFFITHS Feb. 22, 1836 in Sullivan county, MO. He was the father of 15 children. He died 1870, probably in Newton county, MO.
