Simon Peter Ward and Amanda Shipley Ward was in Boone County 1870
Census. I have his background back to Tenn and Va. but was there any other Wards in
this Census that may have been Aunts, uncles etc. There was a Ward there in 1860
Census but all I have is a Index for 1860. I would like the information from the
actual Census if you can. I feel he had family there as to the reason he left Tenn
and went to Boone, Ky. By 1880 his Widow and children was back in Scott Co. Va.
Simon Peter Ward died from a heart attack in 1873 at a Sawmill in Olivers Landing,
Ark. He is buried there. We have the letter in our family. any help will be greatly
appreciated.

My grandfather, William Thomas Conner (married Ida Mae Hodges)
His father was James T. Conner (married to Martha Jane Underhill)
His father was John G. Conner (married to Sarah Gravet)
John G. Conner was born in 1819, Sarah around 1833. They married 11/24/1846, her
step-father was Richard McAtee. She was 13 years old. They married in Grant County
KY. We are trying to find John G. Conner's ancestry. We have suspicion that he might
be the son of John Conner, brother to William Conner of Conner Prarie IN...however, we
can't prove it. There were some marriages to
Delaware Indians...can't find that information online, and am in Texas, but in any
regard, we'd like to know when this branch of the Conner family came to America. We
know, from family oral history, that this branch of the family was from Doneraile, IR,
and was catholic. If we can find the ancestor, we can get records in IR for that
side! The reason for our suspicions is the "family legend" scenario. My sister and I
and our aunts and uncles remember stories that the "Conner brothers came to KY via
Canada, thru great lakes and into Indiana as fur trappers and traders ...stopping
along the way to settle .. then being uprooted...and travelled further with the Hodges
(whom they met in their
journey) to settle in what became Boone County, KY..at Rabbit Hash on the Ohio River.
We are looking for any connection. We know that a John Conner and a Wilson Conner
owned property in KY in Fayette county in 1801. Wilson Conner is a family name, my
grandfather's only brother (born in 1884) was named Wilson Conner. We have asked a
genealogist in KY to get information
regarding these people and she doesn't seem to see a connection.
Thank you

I am looking for information on my g g grandfather, Dr. Samuel

about 1850 and remained in the area until 1860.
He married Elizabeth Miller of Washington Co. about 1853.
She was the daughter of Henry Miller. They lived in Washington

then moved to Grant Co. near Crittenden. My g g grandfather was
then Ciruit Clerk of Courts and then appointed notary by Govenor

"dnutter@eznet.net" David G. Nutter, Tue Sep 3 13:09:06 1996

My ancestors Thomas Nutter (1760-1835) and Sarah (Bagwell)
Nutter (1759-ca. 1850), with their children named Betsy,
Leah, Huet (spelled variously), Sally, David and William, and
Thomas's older brothers named Hewitt, David and John
and their families, migrated from Sussex County, DE, on the
Delmarva peninsula, to Fayette and Scott Counties, KY
shortly before 1797. They settled in the area of the
Georgetown area's "Newtown" settlement. I believe the
year would have been 1795 or 1796, years in which both the
northern route to Kentucky (along the Braddock - later
National - Road or along the Great Pennsylvania Road -
formerly the Forbes Road) and the southern route (the
Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap) had, I am told, been
improved for Conestoga wagons. I am trying to determine
whether they used the northern route or the southern route
by seeing whether any family members may have dropped off
this trek at any county along the way. Do you find any
evidence of the name Nutter in the records of Mercer County
for the time period 1795-1840? It was suggested that I post
this message in this way, which is a new experience. Please
disregard it if you have seen it on a particular county
look-up. I have received many great answers and feel that I
am making good progress. The outlook - that they followed
the Braddock Road to either Old Fort Pitt, by then abandoned
as a fort, or to the site of Wheeling via Fort Redstone on the
Monongehela/Cheat River system, then down the Ohio to Limestone,
and overland along the Licking River to Newtown. We are
discovering their farms and graves noe in the Newtown-Mt. Horeb-
New Zion area. Thank you.

James Peyton and Mary (Malory) Ashley. I only know the father

says that the land on which the court house in Carlise was
built was given to the county by Samuel Kincart (formerly the
land was a peach orchard) and that Samuel came from Virginia.
James Peyton Ashley Sr. was the first building contractor in
Nicholas County. James P. (Sr), Rebecca and Samuel Kincart and
Mary Malory apparently all came from Virginia, but, know one
can tell where they originated in Virginia.

The dates that I know of are:

James Peyton Ashley (Sr) arrived about 1807 and served in the
War of 1812.
James Peyton Ashley (Jr) B-3/30/1824 D-4/21/1904
Rebecca (Kincart) Ashley B-5/14/1829 D-4/21/1905

Although, both male Ashleys had the same name, I have been unable to find any
