Are there any descendants of Dr. William Beattie LAUGHLIN (one of the founders of Rushville, I'm told) still in the Rush County area with whom I could correspond? I am descended from Dr. Laughlin (son of James William McLaughlin and Sarah Beattie) and his wife Ruth McKINNON through their daughter "Daraxa" (or Direxia or even Dianna, depending upon which record one uses) who married Onias JACKSON. The Laughlins had a large family, something like 15 children, 10 or so of them daughters; only one of their sons, Harmony LAUGHLIN, lived to maturity. Would especially appreciate any information on Onias JACKSON -- who his parents were, etc. I know that Onias JACKSON probably settled in Rushville about the same time as his father-in-law, Dr. LAUGHLIN. I have visited Rushville several times and have recorded the information available in the courthouse and in the genealogical library, as well as the cemetery, but perhaps there is more information I haven't heard about.

i am researching two families from Rush County. Amaziah MORGAN and John SMELSER. Amaziah's daughter Minerva married John's son, John Jr. They raised 11 children, 7 of whom lived into adulthood. The elder Smelser was the founder of Smelser's mill on Flat Rock. At one time it served as a post office, and is known to have been a meeting place for the local militia. Amaziah Morgan was one of the first commissioners of Rushville, and a state legislator for 12 years. It is not known where he is buried, and if anyone could help me with that, I'd be elated! 1850 Census shows Philander SUMMERS, age 16, (and his sister, Elizabeth, age 18, living with the Zeno Lamb(e) family in Henry County. Who were the parents of Philander ; Elizabeth? Could they have been Elijah and Sarah (LAMB) SUMMERS who were married July 29, 1830 in Henry County, Indiana? I believe so, but cannot find the proof. So far have been unable to obtain birh certificate for Philander or find any death records for Sarah.Elijah did remarry in February, 1846 in Rush County. Sarah and Zeno Lamb seem to have come from Kentucky. Elijah was born in Wales (according to 1880 Census) but can find no record of him before his marriage to Sarah in 1830.

DAVID/HITCHCOCK/BARTON of Rush Co, Indiana. I would like to contact anyone with information or an interest in the DAVID families who settled in the 1830s and 40s in Rush Co. The early DAVID settlers of Rush Co had the given names of Henry, Jacob, William, and John. They appear to be a portion of the DAVID family that had settled in Bourbon, Harrison, and Mason Counties of Kentucky. My own interest is in Sarah DAVID who, 23 Dec 1818, married Abel HITCHCOCK in Bourbon Co, KY and after his death she married Nicholas BARTON, 28 July 1839, in Rush Co, IN. A Henry DAVID gave the bond on her marriage to Abel HITCHCOCK. Thanks Jim Scofield
