Subject: Looking for an obituary

Hi, how do I go about looking for an obituary? I'm looking for a Frank Ward who may have died in this area. He was living in Demotte in 1968. I wrote to Joyce Lane in Rensselaer, but she found nothing and suggested I try Porter County because of the hospital and nursing home their. Can you help me or put me in touch with someone who can? Thanks. Trudy Ward Johnson

Otho Baker, b. abt 1834, OH/PA, is listed in 1860 Porter Co., Westchester Twp., census, with wife, Malissia (b. abt 1840, NY), and children, Alonzo (b. abt 1858, IN), and Diantha (b. abt May 1860). I believe that he is a son of Samuel and Salina (Jenks) Baker, of Erie Co., PA. He seems to have left the area before the 1870 (couldn't find him in Westchester Twp.). Does anyone have an 1870 IN index, or have an idea where people in this area migrated to around this time period? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Scott T. Kraus

Searching for details and date of a near riot at the Porter, Ind. rain station in the Spring to Early Summer of 1894. My source of information is a Battle Creek newspaper article dated 26 Sept. 1937. The story has my grandfather - Henry Shearer - a 26 year old train agent stopping the crowd by grabbing two axes and backing his 6-5 body against the train engine and daring the crowd to come forward to stop the train. Would love to confirm this story. Any related info or dates would be appreciated.
