Sarah Ann RUSSELL born 25 Dec 1837 in Putnam Co, IN, d. 26 Apr 1878 in Boone Co, IN. Married Elias BUDD in Jackson Twp, Putnam Co, IN by John Case who is mentioned in A Journey Through Putnam Co History as a Brissel Ridge Regular Baptist church preacher. 1850 census lists a Sally Russell with Barney Russell born in KY who was possibly her father. Lydia Russell was also in the family aged 40 - caretaker? Siblings are John Russell, b. 1831; William Russell, b. 1832; Ruth Russell b. 1837. 1860 census places this family in Jefferson Co, IN, and in 1870 in Lebanon, Boone Co, IN. One of her daughter's obituaries mentions her name as Sarah (CLIFFORD) Budd. Her ch. were: Mary Ann Budd m. George OSBORN; William E Budd m. Amanda Jane CHITWOOD; James Madison Budd m. BENDER / DAWES
Samuel BENDER came to Madison, IN, in 1818 and was m. there to Mary Ann DAWES April 9, 1820. The following year, they moved to Kentucky where he studied medicine, became a doctor later practicing in Tennessee and Missouri. Samuel's father is thought to be Henry BENDER. Mary's parents were Caleb and Susan DAWES who came to U.S. in 1793. I have been unable to determine if Samuel or Mary's parents also lived in Indiana. I would like to exchange information with any who are interested in these families.

BERRY / CAVIN
I am interested in information on James H. BERRY and Emily J. CAVIN, My GG grandparents. They were married on December 24, 1860 in Jefferson County, Indiana. This was Emily's second marriage and it appears that James may have died within a few years of their marriage, possibly during the Civil War. James and Emily had at least one daughter, Frances BERRY, and possibly another. Emily's first husband, Alexander CAVIN, died in Jefferson County. Following Emily's marriage to James BERRY she married a third time. The third marriage was to her first husband's older brother John CAVIN. John and Emily eventually moved to Texas. I need information of Benjamin BROOKS b. c.1797 m. Matilda MANVILLE 6 Apr. 1815 in Jefferson Co. IN. Moved to IL c. 1822. I know nothing about his parents or where born. Will exchange information as to his descendants.I am his g-g-g-grandson. Matilda was the daughter of Nichols MANVILLE and Mary ? She apparently had a brother Butler MANVILLE. CHAMBERS
CHAMBERS, ISAAC 1795 - 1860. Continuing research on this ancestor and his family. Isaac Chambers was b. on May 28, 1795 in Nelson Co., in central KY. Of his adventurous youth, we have only a glimpse. He navigated flatboats on the Ohio and Mississppi, going so far as New Orleans. When he was 19 yrs old, he enlisted in the Kentucky militia, and fought in the battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812. He walked home from the war and then traveled to Jefferson County where he built a cabin. After returning to Kentucky, he m. Mehetabel GOODIN in 1816. He brought his family to Jefferson Co. where he lived the rest of his days. He became well known and respected by his neighbors and was a captain in the state malitia; in fact, he was known as Captain Isaac Chambers. It was no mere title. During the tumultuos debate on the slavery issue that raged in the country, he and two others faced down a mob of 60 angry men who sought to silence an abolitionist speaker. In 1843, he was elected to the Indiana legislature, where he served one term. Mehetabel died in 1854 and he followed her in death in 1860. My GG GF William R CLOSE born Aug-Sept.1816. They ran a brickmaking business in Madison and also Scott CO. I've found them on 1820 census, but know very little about them. Hi, I am trying to find a will for my ggg grandfather JOHN W. CONNER. He was born in VA in abt 1792. He lived most of his life in Clark Co., IN. He died and was buried in the Charlestown IN area (CLARK CO.)in 1858. In a wills book found in the Jeffersonville library, a will for a John Conner in 1858 was supposedly in Madison Co.. However, when I contacted them they said their records did not start until 1879. I have checked with Clark and Floyd Counties as well. Is there another way to locate this will of John Conner of 1858? It may not by mine, but I would like to take a look. I wondered if they meant Madison, IN not Co. This would by Jefferson Co. Is this a possibility?

HICKS in your family tree? I am looking for ANY information you might have about Hicks families that moved to Saluda 1820-1830. Four members are associated with KYLE families that moved from Virginia in 1818-1820. So far, I know that "Julia Hicks" (b 1820 in VA) married Robert Kyle in 1839. Two years later, Robert Kyle's sister Mary married "Jacob Hicks." In the 1850 census, "Josephine Hicks" (b 1835) lived with Robert Kyle in Jefferson County and "George Hicks" lived with James Kile in Trimble County. Have you ever encountered any of these people?

Searching for information on Sarah KING, born 23 August 1869 in Madison, Jefferson Co, IN. She lived with her maternal grandparents, the BENNETT family, in Madison as a child. Sarah married first a man named MYERS, by whom she had a daughter, Jessie. In 1896, she married George SMITH in Madison. Sarah died in 1930. I can find nothing about her other than the above information! Please help, I have been working on her for three years!

KYLE

John William LOCKRIDGE b. 1 Mar 1857-8, in Dupont, Jefferson Co., IN, married twice. First, maybe to Mary J. HANKINS, on 30 Mar 1876, in Jefferson Co., IN. Other sources have listed a marriage on this same date as "Joseph" Lockridge-Mary Jane Hankins. I believe John bought a lot in N. Madison in 1884, and sold the same lot in 1887 after he and Mary J. had moved to Clinton Co., IN. Their surname could have been spelled Lochridge, Loughridge, Laughridge--just however the clerk-of-the-day thought it sounded. Children were Harry N., Mamie (Mary?) and possibly two other daughters. Mary J. died (of T.B., per family legend) and later John William re-married to Annie Lee Bell, and they, Harry, and Mamie lived in different places in KY. I am seeking any information about this first marriage, children, etc. I have details of the second marriage and descendants, and will be glad to share.

I am searching for additional information about my greatgrandparents, THOMAS and ANN LAHEEN McLAUGHLIN who were married in Madison, IN in 1870. They were both born in Ireland (1839 and 1842) but immigration dates and locations are unknown. Their seven children were born in Madison between 1870 and1887. The family lived there from 1870 until sometime between 1890 and 1900 when they moved to Indianapolis. It is my understading that Thomas McLaughlin was a riverboat captain for 30 years and started his career in the civil war.

MADDOX, Walter Charles. Walter Charles MADDOX was born abt 1879 in Owen County Ky. He was the s/o James H. and Frances (Kemper) MADDOX who owned a farm in Trimble County, KY. His brothers and sisters were: Tildon, Flora, Mayme, Mattie, Ollie and James Penn MADDOX who owned the Maddox Tobacco Warehouse. Walter Charles m. Lottie TEWELL in Jefferson County, Indiana, on 23 Dec 1903. They moved to Indianapolis and had four sons: Merrill, Carl, Everett and Floyd. IN 1929 WALTER CHARLES DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE as far as his immediate family knew. Walter worked at a number of jobs some of which were for the (possibly New York Central) Railroad and as a maintainance worker for the Indiana Central Mental Hospital (possibly called at the time, the Indiana Hospital for the Insane.) It was the latter job he held at the time of his disappearance. He was a member of the Elk Lodge. The Lodge members assisted in the search but to no avail. Do you know what happened to Walter Charles? Two of his sons still live and it would mean a great deal to them to know the end of the story.

Most have connections, whether it be birth or death in Jefferson Co. I have references that put some of them specifically in Bryantsburg, Jefferson Co. Robert William CHAMBERS m. Sarah Emily MAYFIELD. His sister, Mahitabal married Burdette MAYFIELD. Did this sister and brother marry a sister and brother? Anyone have any of these lines? I haven't gotten back farther than Isaac CHAMBERS and Mahedabel Goodwin.

LOOB / SHAUGHNESSY
I am searching for two families, LOOB and SHAUGHNESSY. Any information on either surname would be helpful. Thomas Loob and Michael Shaughnessy immigrated to the U.S. cir. 1848, then settled in Madison, Indiana at least from 1850-1852, as they are both listed in the 1850 Census, and were both married in Oct. 1852. Thomas Loob m. Honora SMITH, and Michael Shaughnessy m. Ellen RYAN. Both marriages were performed by Father H. Dupontavice, who, as I have discovered, was a priest for St. Patrick's Church. However, no church records of this union exist, nor do any record of the children who were reported to have been born there. The families moved on to Keokuk, Iowa for a short time, and then settled in St. Bridget, Kansas by 1857.

Researching both Rector and Duffy: Specifically Hezekiah Rector married Margaret Duffy 3 Jul 1848 in Jefferson Co, Indiana. Margaret is the granddaughter of John Duffy Sr, but daughter of which son? Hezekiah Rector's family is a mess - many came from Kentucky to Indiana, back to Kentucky. Who were both of these people's parents? They lived in Madison in 1850. Kentucky - but I haven't been able to find where in 1860. And, Missouri from 1868 and later.

I am looking for confirmation (or refutation) of two events that I am 90% certain of. The first is that sometime before 1830 in Jefferson County, Joseph Wildman (b. about 1791 in Virginia) married Mary Underwood (b. abt 1792 in Virginia or Kentucky), the daughter of early Jefferson County pioneer, James Underwood. The second is that one of the children of Joseph and Mary was Patsy Wildman (b. 14 February 1830 in Jefferson County; m. 23 July 1849 in Miami County Jacob Freestone; d. 26 June 1907 in Dunn County, Wisconsin).

John BEHAN, b. ca 1825 in Ireland, was naturalized in Jefferson Co., IN, on 5 April 1852. He arrived in NY on 4 July 1846, but doesn't appear in 1850 IN census. His wife was Anna MNU. They had three children, Mary, Anna, and William Patrick, all christened as Catholics in Madison, IN, 1852-9. John and Anna Behan don't appear in 1860 IN census either and are presumed to have d. between time of b. of last child and taking of census. Family legend has it that the girls were adopted and moved to California. William Patrick shows up in 1870 Brown Co., IN, census. Apparently John and Anna's death record was lost or destroyed in a fire. Would appreciate any information about how/where they d. and are bd.

I'm looking for information for the family of Andrew TWEEDY b 1MAR 1811 m 4 MAY 1841 in Jennings County, Emily C. STITES. According to the 1860 Indiana Census, their children are Eliza P. b abt 1844; Elizabeth b abt 1846; Robert b abt 1850; John P. b abt 1852; Mary b abt 1854; Martha b abt 1857; and Emily b abt 1859. I'm not sure which TWEEDY family (most TWEEDYs lived in Jennings County) that Andrew is from, I know there were quite a few STITES living in Jefferson County. I have considerable information on the TWEEDYs who lived in Jennings County and some who later emigrated west to KS, MO, OR, WA and eventually Idaho.

UEBELE / RENSCHLER / CLOSE
John Uebele came to Jefferson County in about 1857. After serving in the 82nd Infantry in the Civil War, he married Sophie Renschlers, whose family came to Jefferson County about the same time. Both were from Wurttemberg Germany. I have tried in vain to find where in Wurrtemburg they came from. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Also, Christina Uebele, the daughter of the above John and Sophie, married a John Addison Close. I have a lot to share on the Closes.
