Researching COAKLEY and DICKERSON. Lived in Linton from abt. 1902 to 1915? My ggrandfather was JEREMIAH J. COAKLEY, son of ELLEN HARREN (Coakley)and MICHAEL CRONAN? b. 1849 in Canada, died 1916 in Nokomis, IL. Married Catherine Sullivan(1862-1896) in Brazil, IN. She was the daughter of John and Mary(Clifford) Sullivan. He was severely maimed in a mining accident, I believe about 1916. He received a settlement from the Vandalia Coal company in Linton. Is there a local newspaper there that was in existence at that time? Jeremiah had four brothers and two sisters: JOHN, CORNELIUS, TIMOTHY, JAMES, MARY, And ELIZABETH COAKLEY. I believe they were all living in Linton at the time of his death. I would like to have a copy of his obituary if there was one in appeared in that town. My grandmother, Ellen C. Coakley married James F. Dickerson in Linton Sept. 5, 1905. Would like wedding announcement. Would love to correspond with others researching those names. Looking for info on: COAKLEY,SULLIVAN, HERREN, (O'HERN, HERN)CRONIN(CRONAN)
My ggrandfather JEREMIAH J. COAKLEY (or Jeremiah J. CRONAN) was born Sept. 14, 1849 in Canada and died March 16, 1916 in Nokomis, Montgomery county, IL. According to all records I have found, his name was Coakley. But on his marriage application in Brazil, IN, his father is listed as Michael CRONAN, mother ELLEN HERREN. His siblings records show father JOHN COAKLEY, mother ELLEN HERREN. I also found old pictures with handwritten note: "Grampa and Grandma(Cronin) Coakley." I have not been able to find any adoption papers or marriage record of John and Ellen HERREN(Cronin?) or birth record of Jeremiah. Would appreciate any info that would help clear up this confusion. Jeremiah Coakley married Catherine Sullivan, b. abt. 1862 in Ireland, daughter of John and Mary (CLIFFORD) SULLIVAN 0n Feb.6, 1883 in Brazil, IN. She died in 1896 and is buried in Restlawn Cemetery in Brazil. I have been unable to obtain any death record on her. Jeremiah and Catherine Coakley had 5 children: Thomas Francis (Frank) b. 12AUG1884 in Clay county d. May 1972 John D. b.21JUN1886 in Clay county d. 1935 Ellen C d.242DEC1938 Arthur P. b.8OCT1890 d. 30APR1967 James M. b. 1896 d. 12DEC1924 Other tidbits of information: 1. Was a coal miner for over 30 years before being seriously maimed in mining accident at Vandalia Coal Company. Date unknown. 2. Was Catholic. 3. Charter member of I.O.O.F. #589, Cardonia. I have many pictures, personal letters and family records I will share. Kay
