This Civil War portrait was painted by Gellar Stark
from a tintype

James David (Jas as he was known) was born in Madison later Jackson County
He was the 8th of nine children of Peter David & Elizabeth Stephens David
He married Elizabeth Gholston and they had 5 children.
 He fought in the Civil War and was killed in 1862
at Sharpsburgh, Cramptons Gap, Maryland.
