The Journal Times (Racine, WI) Mon August 28, 1939

Mrs Fannie Murrgatroyd died at the 
home of her daughter, Mrs. William 
Cole, town of Hiles at 6 p.m. 
Sunday evening. Funeral services 
will be held at the First 
Methodist Church on Wednesday 
afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. 
A.W. Triggs officiating, assisted 
by the Rev. C.A. Oniell of 
Nekoosa. Burial will take place at 
the Forest Hill Cemetary. 
Mrs. Murgatroyd (nee) Sumpter was 
born in Lincolnshire, England Oct 
6, 1847, the daughter of Mr.,and 
Mrs. John Murgatroyd. At the age 
of 6, she came to this country 
with her parents and settled in 
Union Grove; where she lived until 
her marriage to John Murgatroyd at 
the age of 22.  40 years ago, they 
moved to Vesper, where they 
remained for 28 years. For the 
past 12 years, Mrs. Murgatroyd 
made her home with her daughter, 
Mrs. Cole. 11 children were born 
to them, the husband and 7 
children precedeing her in 
death.Surving are Rolland City 
Point,b and Roy of Port Edwards, 
two daughters Mrs. P.E. Farr of 
Sanfransisco, Ca and Mrs. William 
Cole of City Point, and one 
brother Alexander Sumpter Union 
Grove; 22 grandchildren and 31 
great grandchildren also survive.
