The youngest son of Col. John Williams and Ann Nancy Ballard Humphrey, John 
was born August 1840. He married Susan Caroline Noble and they had 8 children. 
James as not a businessman.  They lived in the Woodington community until 
James lost the homestead by failing to pay a $500.00 debt. His father, Colonel 
John Williams, deeded the new land to Susan Caroline Noble Williams and 
children, bypassing James, so the family would have a place to live (Frog 
Level Farm where Paul Clayton Williams lived.) Per conversations with Milton 
Roscoe Williams and per the ""Heritage of Lenoir County 1981," page 428.
 
"Edward" from marriage announcement in New Bernian paper) January 18, 1898
In book of NC Troops 1861-1865, listed as "James E. Williams, Private. 
Enlisted in Lenoir County at age 22, March 1, 1862 for the war. Present or 
accounted for through December 1861."
