WAR OF 1812

Kinston, 23rd July 1812

At a meeting of a Number of Citizens of the County of Lenoir for the 
purpose of taking into consideration Certain Matters & things relative 
to the welfare of the Families & property of those patrottic Citizens 
who have Voluntured their Services at the present crises in the Defense 
of our enailuable rights so as to preserve them from want or distress 
in the absence of their husbands,

On motion Mr. John Gatlin was appointed Chairman & James Bright appointed 
Secretary On motion the following persons was appointed a Committee to 
Draw up Resolution to be adopted for the above purposes (viz) Nathaniel 
Edwards, Alexander Mosley, Thos. Aldredge, Simon Bruton, William 
Wetherington, Henry Shepherd, James Cox and Phillip Miller who are 
directed to report imediately

Col. Simon Bruton Chariman of the above Committee to whom was refered the 
consideration of some measures as in their opinion would be best 
calculated to provide & protect the interest & well fair of the Familyes 
of such of the patriotic Citizens as have voluntered their Services in 
the protection of our County beg leave to report the following (to wit)

2nd page - Note: the right hand side of this paper has been torn and some 
of the names are missing. Also the paper has been torn down the middle

1st we recommend that three persons be appoint--  in each Captns District 
whose duty it shall be to provide ?? for those Familys such assistance or 
support as in their they may need or may be absolutly necessary for this 
purpose nominate

On motion ordered that each Committee in the above procedings
