I, Susan SPENCE, wife of Stephen SPENCE do hereby appoint Jno. C. WOOTEN my lawful 
agent to collect and receive any and all money's coming to or due me under a 
resolution of the Second extra Session of the Legislature of North Carolina for 
wages due my husband as a volunteer in Capt. SUTTON'S Company the "Lenoir Braves" 
who was captured by the Federals at Cape Hatteras the 29st of August last-
Any receipt-signed and given by him shall be as binding on me as if I were present 
and signed the same in person. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal-
