WESTBROOK-CARR BIBLE

transcribed and edited by Jack D. Elliott, Jr., February 19, 2002

On February 16, 2002, I found in the Westbrook file in the Bryan Public Library,
West Point, Mississippi, four pages of photostatic copies of family entries from a
Bible that had been used by the Westbrook-Carr family. The record suggests that it
was initially kept for the family of Moses and Sidney Ann Carr Westbrook, then
following Moses's death in 1854, the Bible remained with Sidney Ann following her
remarriage to Lewis Whitfield Carr, who was presumably her cousin.

The photostatic copies were apparently sent to West Point in 1971 by a descendant,
Moses Lawrence Westbrook, of Houston, Texas, as suggested by this excerpt from a
letter that I found in the same Westbrook file:

Several months ago my cousin, Floy Robinson, grand daughter of Sidney and L.W.
Carr, died in Austin, Texas. I knew she had the original Westbrook-Carr bible, so
I called her daughter in Austin and she said yes she had it and I was welcome to
copy anything made in the bible by Gr. Grandmother Sidney in her own handwriting.
For the first time we learne who Sidneys Mother and Father were. It also records
the birth of her sons by Moses Westbrook in West Point. I wanted you to have this.
You may want to give it to West Point library, but do as you wish.

From letter, Moses Lawrence Westbrook, 2108 Willowick Road, Houston, Texas, 77027,
to a Mrs. McClennan, March 27, 1971

The publication date and place of this Bible were not provided, nor was the sequence
of the four copied pages given. Consequently, I transcribed the pages below according
to a sequence which I have devised.
