Personal Letter

Envelope addressed to: Richard NOBLE, SR., Esqr.
Sandy Foundation
Lenoir County, N.C.
Written by Durant NOBLE to his Uncle Richard NOBLE, Sr. of Sandy Foundation,
Lenoir Co.,N.C.

Montgomery, Ala.
Oct. 24th 1852

Dear Uncle,

It has been so long since I wrote you that I am ashamed now to write but as I
have just learned from Oliver HERRING that you are still alive I hasten to
write you a few lines to let you know that I am living and have not forgotten
you and I hope this may find you in good health, as this leavs me in find
health when I wrote you before I Expected to start to California but at that
time I could not get a pasage and after a proper reflection I give it out
altogether and I am well satisfide that I don so I have been in bad health for
a bout a year untill this sommer. My health has been very good I hast through
N. Carolina the sommer before this last going and coming to the north but my
buisines and health would not per mit me to stop and see you and you may
imagin my feeling when I stoped in Goldburough when all of my old asociations
came fresh in to minde but there was no help I had to push fordward much
against my will and now I don't see any prospects of ever getting the
opertunity of coming without neglecting my buisince and you know the nature of
man is for money. I am happy to say that my life has been up to this time
prosperous and as happy as most of men and I shall try to keep it so as for as
a single man can. I have retired from hard work I have some property in the
City that pays a good rent and I have some money loaned out 15 pr. Cent. I am
now following the buisiness of Archatect drawing plans for houses and
Superenting the building which is a prety building and pays well. I keep an
office and if any body has any buissiness withme are calls and I am happy to
weight on him and he Expects to pay for what ever I do for him and I have
plenty of spare time for enjoyment. My best plans I get $150-00 for and from 2
to 3 hundred for superenting the building to see that the plans is all cared
out.
The crops are very fine here this year particular corn. I hered from John
NOBLES widow some time back she is living in this county and I think her post
office is Mores Crop Roads, Montgomer County, Ala. She was well at the time
that I hered from her and has become quite fleshy. So I will come to a close
for the want of something to write a bout. You will please give my respect to
inquiring friends.
Yours Effectionately,
Durant NOBLE
To Richard NOBLE, Sr.

the for him but he would not consent; he has three lovely girls and is proud
of them you may be shure I have not seen Brother William for some 15 years but
he writes ocasionly he is much afflicted with Rhumatism and complains that he
can't write in every letter.
