Note 1: The following is a transcription of the recorded will and inventory
of Augustine Thomas of Patrick Co, VA; will written 4/27/1822 & returned May
Court 1822, Will Book 1, page 149; inventory appraised 5/25/1822 & recorded
October 1822, Will Book 1, Page 323-325.
Note 2: The spelling is as it is in the actual documents as best as I can
interpret it.
Note 3: A probable single list of the slaves mentioned in the two documents
is at the end of this file.

In the name of God Amen; I first desire my soul to goo from whence it came in
hoples [hopes?] of a happy resurrection. Secondly I give to my son Washington
Thomas the Tract of land he now lives on containing two hundred and sixteen
acres be the same more or less also a stock of all kinds with house hold
furniture.
Thirdly I give to Benjamin Thomas three sons namely James Waring Thom, Robbert
Anderson Thom, and Augustine Thomas the horssheue[?] Track of Land with other
property that theare decest father had Recevd. with one hundred and twenty
dollars in cash. The above horsscheue[?] track of Land I wish to be sold and
the money put out on Interest till the youngest son Augustine Thomas comes of
age. Fourthly I give to Deborah Burrous a Negro geairl Deale and a Negro
wench Vilet with stock of all kind and house hold furniture the wench Vilet
is to continue with my wife during her widowhood.
Fifthly I give to Nancy Wade a neagro wench Rode with a stock of all kind and
household furniture- sixthly, I give to my daughter Rachel Thomas a neagro
wench Silph and her child Ginny and a hors colt sprightly with a saddle
feather Bed and firnuchour also a part of all the cattle and sheep. 7ly. I
give to my daughter Mary Thomas a neagro wench Aggy and a neagro geairl hailly
a mare colt diment with a saddle a feather Bed and firnuchowr also a part of
cattle and sheep

8ly. I give to my son Edward Thomas and my son Augustine Barth Thomas a
neagro fellow Jack a neagro fellow Seam a neagro wench Hannah a neagro boy
Seawny and a neagro boy Abram with the plantaion I now live on with all the
rest of the out lands belonging too it and all the plantation tools also the
Smiths tools and all the rest of the tools belonging to the schop also the too
wagons with all the gearing and four horses all the cattle sheep a hodges[?]
with too feather beds and furnechure with a Burrow a corner couboard a chest a
clock a looking glass and three tables and all the ketching firnuchour and all
the grain [inserted above] on the plantation all the above property that I
have given [end insert] to my too sons Edward Thomas and Augustine Barthw.
Thomas my wife Deborah Thomas is to have her maintannance with every thing
neasary for a comfortable living with a horse and saddel when she calls for
one during my widows[?]
9ly. I give to my daughter Luscinda Cogar a Negro girl Meaiacu[?] and a negro
boy Green with a feather beadd and furniture a mare and saddel with other
property Apl. 27th 1822
