Tudor/Washbourne Deed, 1844 - Patrick Co. VA


TUDOR TO WASHBOURNE DEED (1844) 
Recorded in Deed Book 12, Page 285, Patrick County, Virginia

This indenture made and entered into the day of [sic] 25th day of April One 
Thousand eight hundred and forty four Between William Tudor and Joyce his 
wife of the county of Patrick state of Virginia of the one part and Thompson 
C. Washbourne of said county and state of the other part. Witnesseth that for 
and in consideration of the sum of One hundred and fifty dollars to the said 
William Tudor and Joyce his wife in hand paid by the said Thompson C. 
Washbourne at or before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt is 
hereby acknowledged and doth by these presents agree to and confirm, grant 
bargain and sell unto the said Thompson C. Washbourne his heirs or assigns 
one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid 
and bounded as follows to wit. Begining [sic] at sorrel wood on north side 
road leading from near Penns Store towards the mountain by the way of Joshua 
Adams thence +ing same S25 W208 poles to chestnut tree. Thence S86 W94 poles 
to oak black guns & sorrel pointers on the path. Thence new dividing line as 
follows N12 E40 poles N25 E10 poles N83 E54 poles N21 E18 poles N10 E86 poles 
N28 E45 poles to oak and sorrel pointers on said road leading from the 
begining [sic]. Thence with the same as it meanders S70 E30 poles S83 E28 
poles S65 E24 poles S50 E24 poles to the begining [sic] containing one 
hundred and fifty acres more or less. To have and to hold unto the said 
Thompson C. Washbourne his heirs or assigns forever and the said William 
Tudor and Joyce his wife doth bind themselves their heirs exrs. or admrs. to 
make and warrant a good and lawful right and title unto the said Thompson C. 
Washbourne his heirs or assigns free from the claim or claims of all and 
every person or persons whatsoever with all the appurtenances thereunto 
belonging. In witness whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and 
affixed their seals the day and date first written.

Patrick County to wit
We Thomas Penn and Clark Penn justices of the peace in the County aforesaid 
hereby certify that Joyce Tudor wife of William Tudor parties to the within 
deed bearing date the 25th day of April 1844 appeared before us in our county 
aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and 
having the deed fully explained to her she the said Joyce Tudor acknowledged 
the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed 
and delivered the same and that wished not to retract it. Given under our 
hands and seals this 25th day of April 1844.

In Patrick Clerks office the 26th April 1844
This deed from William Tudor and wife to Thompson C. Washbourne with the 
relinquishment of dower thereon endorsed was presented in the clerks office 
aforesaid proved by the oaths of Two witnesses thereto subscribed and lain by 
afterwards on 27th September 1845 was further and fully proven and admitted 
to record.
