BILL OF SALE: JOHN SHARP TO THOMAS MITCHELL, 1796

Know all men by these Presence that I John Sharp of the County of Patrick 
and state of Virginia for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty pounds 
to me in hand paid by Thomas Mitchell the Receipt Whereof is hereby 
acknowledgd., hath granted bargained and sold and  by these presence do 
grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Mitchell all my part of the crop 
to be made on said Mitchells plantation for the present year by myself as 
Overseer for said Mitchell, Which part agreeable to a Verbal contract 
heretofore made is to be two fifths of all the corn, Tobacco, Wheat Rye and 
oats made on said plantation and Whereas I the said John Sharp for and in 
consideration aforesd. do oblige myself to tend said crop in a good and 
Sufficient manner and also to carefully save the same that is, to shuck and 
crib the corn, Strip and prize the Tobacco, and Thrash and Carefully save 
all the small grain next fall in due time if there unto required by said 
Thomas Mitchell, the said Mitchell finding seed, and I the said John Sharp 
do Warrant and defend the crop aforesaid unto said Thomas Mitchell, his 
heirs etc from all persons, Whatsoever claiming or having any title therein  
In Witness Whereof  I have hereunto set my hand and fixed my seal this 
thirtieth day of March one Thousand seven hundred and ninety six.

At a court held for Patrick County on Thursday the 31st day of march 1797
The within Bill of Sale was proved by the Oath of one of the Witnesses 
thereto to be the act and deed of the Within named John Sharp, and the same 
was ordered to be Certified And afterwards to Wit, At a Court held for the 
County Aforsd. on Thursday the 23rd day of February 1797 the same was 
further proved by one other Witness thereto, to be the act and deed of the 
said John Sharp, and also the same was Ordered to be Recorded by the Court.
