Deed from John Scott to Thomas Scott, 1864
               Patrick County, Virginia

This Indenture made and entered into this 16th day of February 1864, between 
JOHN SCOTT of the first part of the County of Patrick and State of Virginia, 
and THOMAS SCOTT of the other part, of the county and state above written, 
Witnesseth that the said JOHN SCOTT for and in consideration of the sum of 
one dollar to him in hand paid by the said THOMAS SCOTT at or before the 
sealing and of these presents, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge 
have granted bargained sold -- released and confirmed unto the said THOMAS 
SCOTT and unto his heirs and assigns forever a certain piece or parcel of 
land lying in the County of Patrick on the waters of Johnson's Creek supposed 
to be 51 acres and bounded with lines as followeth. To wit, beginning on a 
chestnut oak in his old line, running a South East course with a crop fence 
to the Creek and down the Creek to the mouth of a branch, a ditch, and a crop 
running the same course to a black gum in his old line, North to a chestnut 
oak N52 W 122 poles to pointers in BLANSETT's line; with his line N83 W 210 
poles crossing the Creek to a dogwood: S32 E34 poles to sourwood tree; S10 so 
running with the line to the beginning.

The same to have or to hold the said piece or parcel of land, with its 
appurtenances unto the said THOMAS SCOTT his heirs and assigns forever, and 
the said JOHN SCOTT for himself and his heirs and assigns to wit that the 
said JOHN SCOTT the said piece or parcel of land hereby granted with the 
appurtenances unto the said THOMAS SCOTT and unto his heirs and assigns will 
warrant and forever defend by these presents.

I, MARTIN CLOUD, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid in the state 
of Virginia, do certify that JOHN SCOTT whose name is signed to the writing 
above bearing date the 10th day of February 1864, has acknowledged the same 
before me in my county aforesaid.

    Given under my hand and seal this 13th day of February 1864.

This deed from JOHN SCOTT to THOMAS SCOTT with the certificate of its 
acknowledgment thereon endorsed was presented to me in my office aforesaid 
and admitted to record.
