Harris/Carter Deed, 1857 - Patrick Co. VA

Patrick Co., DB. 16, p. 214  14 Nov. 1857

This deed made the 14th day of November 1857, between Daniel Harriss and Nancy his wife, of the 
county of Patrick and state of Virginia, of the one part & Jerman W. Carter of the aforesaid 
county of the other part witnesseth:  That for & in consideration of the sum of Two hundred 
dollars in hand paid by the said J.W. Carter, the said Daniel Harriss & his wife Nancy do grant 
unto the said J.W. Carter & his heirs forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the 
county of Patrick & state aforesaid on the water of Blackberry Creek, containing 32 acres by 
the same more or less, bounded as follows, to wit:  Beginning at a forked Red Oak & running 
with Charles Hill's line to a corner White Oak on the side of the road, thence a straight line 
to Blackberry Creek, thence up the creek as it meanders to a Chestnut, thence straight line to 
corner Black Gun, thence from said Gun to the beginning.  We the said Daniel Harriss & Nancy 
his wife do relinquish unto the said J.W. Carter his heirs all our right to the said land & do 
warrant & defend the right to be good.  Given under our hands & seals the day & year above 
written, Interlined before signed.

State of Virginia
Patrick County, to wit:

I, Jesse Giles a justice of the peace for the county aforesaid in the state of Virginia, do 
certify that Daniel Harris, whose name is signed to the writing above bearing date on the 14th 
November 1857, has acknowledged the same before me in my county aforesaid.  Given under my hand 
this 14th day of November 1857.

Patrick County, to wit:
We. J. H. Clark & J.M. Giles Justices of the peace for the county aforesaid do certify that 
Nancy Harriss wife of Daniel Harriss whose names are signed to the writing within bearing date 
on the 14th day of November 1857 personally appeared before us in the county aforesaid & being 
unamended by us privately & apart from her husband & having the writing aforesaid fully 
explained to her She the said Nancy Harriss acknowledged the said writing aforesaid to be her 
act & deed & declared she had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it.  
Given under our hand this 14th day of Nov. 1857.
