Whereas Lot Lee of the county of Patrick and state of Virginia, stands partly indebted to J. P. 
Epperly in the sum of sixty five dollars, good and lawful money of the United States by his 
bond on the first of August 1868, and payable three months after date and whereas Lot Lee is 
desirous to secure more effectually the payment of the said sum of sixty five dollars;
Now therefore this deed made this 8th day of October in the year 1868, between Lot Lee of the 
first part of James A. Taylor Trustee of the second part, and Jesse P. Epperly of the third 
part, witnessth: That the said Lot Lee for and in consideration of the sixty five dollars, to 
him in hand paid by the said Jesse P. Epperly before the sealing and delivery of the presents, 
the receipt where of is hereby acknowledges hath granted bargained and sold a certain track of 
land with the present crop of produce of the same also a crop of corn on a lease taken of 
Rachel Dehart, being in the county and state of Virginia, it being the same land that was 
conveyed to Lot Lee by Henry Bowling and his wife by deed in the year 1868, and of record in 
the office of the Courthouse of said county. To have and to hold the said track of land with is
appurtenances unto the said James A. Taylor. Now if the said Lot Lee shall fail or refuse to 
pay the said Epperly as aforesaid the sum of sixty five dollars, specified in the said bond, 
after the date of this bond, or shall fail or refuse to pay the interest thereon at the time 
mentioned in the said bond, then the said J. A. Taylor shall so soon after said failure or 
refusal as required so to do, by the said Jesse P. Epperly proceed to sell at public auction 
upon the premises for cash, first given legal notice of the time and place of sale, and out of 
the proceeds of such sale they shall first pay all costs and charges attending the execution of 
this trust secondly they shall pay J.P. Epperly sixty five dollars with all the interest that 
shall have accrued thereon and shall remain unpaid and the balance if any they shall pay to Lot 
Lee; and if the said Lot Lee shall pay and discharge the said bond this deed shall be void, 
else to remain in full force and virtue.

Patrick County, to wit:
I J.A. Taylor a Justice of the County aforesaid, in the state of Virginia do certify that Lot 
Lee, whose name is signed to the writing hereto annexed, bearing date on the 8th day of October 
1868, has acknowledged the same before in my county aforesaid.

This Trust Deed from Lot Lee to James A. Taylor trustee for the benefit of Jesse P. Epperly
