Harrold/Chappell Deed, 1884 - Patrick Co. VA

Deed to JESSE HARROLD from ALEXANDER CHAPPELL and ELIZA CHAPPELL, 1884, 
Patrick County, Virginia

This deed made the 20th day of February, 1884 between ALEXANDER CHAPPELL and 
ELIZA CHAPPELL of the first part and JESSE HARROLD of the second part. 
Witnesseth that in consideration of the sum of one hundred and seventy five 
dollars the said ALEXANDER CHAPPELL and ELIZA CHAPPELL doth grant unto the 
said JESSE HARROLD all of two certain pieces or parcels of land lying and 
being in the County of Patrick on Johnson's Creek and its waters, the first 
piece containing sixty acres and is the same land deeded to said ALEXANDER 
CHAPPELL by JOHN SCOTT, bounded as follows, to wit, beginning at a chestnut 
stump on the east side of the said creek N.89 W9, crossing said to a Spanish 
Oak S29 E 38 to a fallen down said oak S6 E41 to a popular S43 W6 to pointers 
in H. G. Clark's line N62 W54 to a poplar near the head of a hollow N7 W32 to 
a sourwood N70 W44 to a white oak N25 E56 to a Spanish oak N53 E126 to a 
maple in Kimball's line S100 E-- poles to the beginning. The other tract 
contains fourteen acres adjoining the above tract and being the land given to 
the said ELIZA CHAPPELL by the will of JOHN SCOTT, dead, reference being had 
to a said will for a full description of said land and the said ALEXANDER 
CHAPPELL and ELIZA CHAPPELL hereby covenant that they will warrant generally 
the property hereby conveyed that they have the right to convey the said 
property to the grantee, that the grantee shall have quiet possession of the 
same, free from all incumbrances, and they will execute such further 
appurtenances of the said property as may be required. Witnesseth the 
following signature and seal.

Patrick County to wit. I, R. M. Clark, a Justice of the County aforesaid in 
the State of Virginia, do certify that ___________whose named is signed to 
the writing hereto annexed bearing date on the 20th day of February 1884 has 
acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. Given under my hand 
this 25th day of February 1884.

County of Patrick to wit:

I, R. M. Clark and Joseph Sayers, Justices for the County of Patrick in the 
State of Virginia do certify that ELIZA CHAPPELL, the wife of ALEXANDER 
CHAPPELL, whose names are signed to the writing hereto annexed bearing date 
on the 20th day of February 1884, personally appeared before us in the County 
aforesaid and being examined by us fairly and apart from her husband and 
having the writing aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said ELIZA 
CHAPPELL acknowledged the said writing to be her act and declared that she 
had willingly executed the same and does not wish to retract it. Given under 
our hands this 25th day of February 1884.

In the Office of Patrick County Court on March 8, 1884 this deed was 
presented and admitted to record.
