Thirty Acres of Land Situated on the Smith River
Written: December 30, 1910
Recorded: January 27, 1911

Recorded January 27, 1911 in the Patrick County Circuit Court Clerk's Office
Book 38, Pages 273 and 274.

  This deed made this 30th day of December in the year one thousand nine hundred 
and ten between J.W. Moran and Malinda Moran, his wife, parties of the first 
part and G.W. Moran, party of the second part.  Witnesseth:  That in 
consideration of the sum of Three Hundred ($300) Dollars in hand paid the 
receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, the said parties of the first part doth 
grant unto the said party of the second part with General Warranty all of one 
certain tract of land situated in Patrick County, Virginia on Smith River 
containing Thirty (30) acres, the same more or less and bounded as follows to-
wit:  Beginning on a willow near the ford of a branch thence down said branch as 
it meanders to Smith's river, thence up the said river as it meanders to the 
Massey field branch, thence up said branch as it meanders to a mulberry tree 
thence a South West course to a persimmon tree on a hill, thence a South East 
course to the beginning.
  The party of the first party hereby reserves the right to use a certain spring 
near the place of the beginning of the boundary of this tract of land.
  The said parties of the first part covenant that they have the right to convey 
the said land to grantee: that they have done no act to encumber the said lane; 
that the grantee shall have quiet possession of the said land, free from all 
encumbrances and that the said parties of the first part will execute such 
further assurance of the said land as may be requisite.
  Witness the following signatures and seals.

State of Virginia, County of Patrick, to wit:
   I, S.J. Pilson, a Justice for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia 
do certify that J.W. Moran and Malinda Moran, his wife whose names are signed to   
the within writing bearing date on the 30th day of December, 1910 have 
acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.
   Given under my hand this 30th day of Dec. 1910.

Virginia, Patrick County to wit:
  In the Clerk's Office of Patrick Circuit Court, the 27th day of January, 1911 
this deed was presented and with that certificate annexed admitted to record.

This property is located in the Calico Rock area which is now part of the Philpott 
Dam project.
