78 1/2 Acres, more or less situated on the waters of Puppy Creek

PATRICK COUNTY DEED BOOK 55, PAGE 159 AND 160

  THIS DEED, Made this 1st day of February in the year one thousand nine hundred 
and twenty-four between Solomon G. Via and Lucy J. Via his wife, of Patrick 
County, Virginia, parties of the first part, and Charlie B. Martin, of the 
County and State aforesaid, party of the second part.
  WITNESSETH:  That and in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred Eighty-eight 
and 75/100 dollars ($588.75) cash in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby 
acknowledged, the said first parties do grant unto the said second party with 
general warranty, all of a certain tract or parcel of land, lying and being in 
Patrick County, Virginia, on the waters of Puppy Creek, containing 78-1/2 acres, 
more or less and bounded as follows.
  Beginning at a set stone in Calvert D. Martin's line, thence with Solomon G. 
Via' line S. 73 E. 51 poles and 13 links to a maple at a fence, thence S. 49 E. 
11 poles and 12 links to a set stone, thence N. 57-1/2 E. 12 poles to a set 
stone at a branch below C.B. Martin's dwelling, thence up said branch as it 
meanders with said Martin's line N. 35 W. 30 poles and 4 links to a maple in 
H.G. McAlexander's line thence continuing up the branch with the said 
McAlexander's line N. 60 W. 23 poles and 15 links, N. 17 1/2 W. 26 poles and 8 
links, N. 34 1/2 W. 16 poles and 16 links to a dogwood, thence same course 
continued up the branch and hollow 12 poles and 9 links to a dogwood at the head 
of said hollow, thence up a hill N. 9 W. 13 poles and 17 links to a white oak at 
a road above Via Schoolhouse, thence same course continued 37 poles and 9 links 
to a set stone, thence N. 26-1/2 W. 35 poles and 11 links to a hickory, thence 
N. 32 W. 15 poles and 11 links to a sourwood; thence N. 43-1/2 W. 9 poles and 13 
links to a black oak, thence S. 89-1/2 W. 12 poles and 14 links to a blackgum; 
N. 83 W. 18 poles and 6 links to an ash in Abner Martin's line, thence with said 
Martin's line S. 48 W. 18 poles and 16 links to a fallen beech at a locust; 
thence with R.E. Wright's line, S. 4-1/2 W. 82 poles and 16 links to a fallen 
chestnut by a large rock in Calvert D. Martin's line; thence with said Martin's 
line, S. 50-1/2 E. 104 poles to the beginning.   The said land is a part of the 
tract formerly owned by the late Peter L. Via.  
  The said first parties covenant that they have the right to convey the said 
land to the grantee; that they have done no act to encumber the said land; that 
the grantee shall have quiet possession of the said land, free from all 
encumbrances and that they the said parties of the first part will execute such 
further assurance of the said land as may be requisite.
  WITNESS the following signature and seals.

STATE OF VIRGINIA, County of Patrick, to-wit:
  I. Thos. E. Bryant, a notary public for the County aforesaid, in the State of 
Virginia, do certify that Solomon G. Via, and Lucy J. Via, his wife, whose names 
are signed to the foregoing writing, bearing date on the 1st day of February, 
1924, have acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid.
  Given under my hand this 1st day of February 1924.

VIRGINIA--Patrick County, to-wit:
  In the Office of Clerk Circuit Court the 7 day of Dec. 1926, this deed was 
presented and with the certificate annexed, admitted to record at 2 o'clock P.M.
