My Dear Wife
I again embrace the pleasant opportunity of writing you these few lines
to inform you that I am in common health all this time hoping this may reach
you in due time. I find you all well and doing well I nothing of any great
importance to write to you at this time. I want you write as soon as you get
this and let me know whether you have got corn enough to do you or not and i
wish to know how yours sows are doing and whether you have sold one of them or
not Also I want to know how you are getting along with my steers and whether
you have had them marked any yet. I hear that the blockade is open at
Charleston is wright smart talk of peace. I want you to leave enough of that
ford corn to plant. I think maybe that peace will be made time enough for us
to mark a crop yet. I want you to take good care of your self and the
children and try to keep away from that complaint if you can also I want to
know if you have settled all my debts yet or not and i want you to send me a
(unknown items) and some sowing thread and a needle and some soap for that is
a scares (letter damaged un readable) So you knock a long time. Do the best
you can and try to get the children to work all you can and when you write
again write how you are making out for salt. I dont wont you to leave for
nothing that money wont bring. I want to know if you have got you any iron
and how much you had to pay for it. I want you to write as soon as you get
this and write all the news you have and write as often as you can. I haven't
received a letter from you since I left home and I begin to want to hear from
you very bad. We have good tents to stay in and good chimneys to them. So I
will close my letter but before doing so I will say that I am sending the boys
a dollar a piece so I remain our affectionate Husband till Death
