Camp Near Fredericksburg, VA
Elisabeth Collier
Dear Wife
I this morning take the pleasure of droping you a few lines witch will
inform you that I am in common health hoping that this reaches you soon and
finding you in good health. I am now in the 24th Ga regt in Capt. Dortch's
company. I got in the company the 15th of this December. I have heard by Lt.
Dortch that you have received the money that Harmon was to pay you I want you
to do just as I told you to with it. I want you to write if you have bought
corn and what you have had to pay for it. I want you to be Vaccinated just as
soon as you can get it done and then I don't want you to go about any more
then you can help and I want you to keep the children at home till the Small
Pocks gets out of the country. If the two sows with pigs does well having
pigs Let Wiley Collier have the spotted sow to raise on the shears. I want
you to plant you a patch of forward corn to save the balance so if I should
get home in time I can plant some. It is generally thought in VA that peace
will be made in the spring. I want you write and with all the news that you
can get in that country. I wish to hear from you very bad so I must close for
this time.
Your Most Affectionate Husband
John Collier
