The Henry Bulletin, November 11, 1930
THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Tue., Nov. 11, 1930, p. 2, col. 6
[edited]. In the passing of William C. Hooker, age 72, at Elamsville, after a
brief illness with pneumonia, this county's loss is inestimable. He served the
county as treasurer and banker for a number of years, a member of the Church of
the Brethren, active in politics, also the general welfare of his many friends
and neighbors. He bore the distinction of being the oldest active merchant in
Patrick County, having spent his entire life in the Smith River district. He
was the oldest member of a large, as well as one of this counties most prominent
families. He leaves beside his wife, two children: Mrs. S. Tyler Rakes,
Endicott, Va., and Horace G. Brown of Elamsville, Va. The deceased leaves also
the following brothers and sisters: Hon J. M. Hooker, Judge H. Lester Hooker,
Dr. Geo. W. Hooker, John A. Hooker, S. H. Hooker, Charlie Hooker, R. L.
Hooker, I. T. Hooker, Mrs. Geo S. Nolen and Mrs. Nannie Turner. Funeral
services were held at his old home place.

Additional Comments:
He is buried in a cemetery near the junction of Elamsville Road and New Hope
Church Road.
