THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Friday, Sept. 8, 1922, p. 1, cols. 1 & 2 
[long article, edited]. Ewell Cox, 32 years old, died in the Lucy Lester 
Hospital Wednesday morning from the effects of the bullet wounds inflicted by 
three assailants by whom he was attacked on Tuesday morning near the old Dillon 
Place in the western part of the county. He died a little more than twenty-four 
hours after he was shot. His wife, Mrs. Mae Turner Cox, who had come at once to 
his bedside, was with him when he died. His sister, Mrs. John Harter, Spray, 
N.C., arrived just a few minutes before his death. The interment will be made in 
the old family burial ground at Dodson, Va., near the home of Dan Cox, father of 
the deceased. Mr. Cox is survived by a wife and one daughter, Minnie, about 8 
years old. He is also survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cox of 
Dodson, and three brothers: Fred and Daniel of Dodson, Clarence Cox of Kentucky, 
and by his sisters, Mesdames Edgar Setliff, Crumpler, W. Va., John Harter, 
Spray, N.C., and Miss Josie Cox, Spray, N.C. Ewell Cox was a man of wealth and 
owned an ideal country house about three miles from Fayerdale, Patrick. County.
